Capital Rx
The second quarter of 2025 was an historic one for Capital Rx. Not only have we continued to grow, but we brought onboard our new Judi Care team (formerly Amino Health), won a variety of awards, and presented findings from clinical studies at both AMCP and PQA!
Let’s dive into our biggest accomplishments of the quarter.
Capital Rx Acquires Care Navigation Company Amino Health
We talk a lot about the importance of aligned, unified care, and with this acquisition we now have a front door to personalized healthcare with our new Judi Care team. This, in conjunction with Judi powering all backend processing needs, presents a unified and holistic health benefit administration approach that will benefit plan sponsors and members alike.
“Outdated technology, stale provider directories, and misaligned incentives should never encumber a patient’s care journey. With Judi Care’s data-first, AI-driven patient navigation solution, we are bringing our clients the level of transparency and control required to engage and empower plan members to seek the best possible care when needed.” - AJ Loiacono, Co-Founder & CEO
Judi Health™ Earns Best Healthcare Insurtech Solution at the 9th Annual MedTech Breakthrough Awards
We are very excited about Judi Health for numerous reasons, from the fact that it’s the first unified claims platform ever to be built to its astonishing power and versatility. It seems like we aren’t the only ones who are excited either, as Judi Health™ took home “Best Healthcare Insurtech Solution" during the 9th Annual MedTech Breakthrough Awards.
This recognition is a testament to the tangible impact Judi Health can have on benefit administration by eliminating inefficiencies and delivering a streamlined experience for patients and providers alike, setting a new standard for what’s possible and laying the foundation for a truly value-based approach to healthcare.
“Judi Health offers a unique healthcare solution to enable seamless, transparent, modular, and efficient claims processing. Health plans and providers have not been effectively able to manage their members’ care holistically or control costs because of the disparate claim processing systems and workflows used to manage pharmacy and medical benefits,” said Steve Johansson, Managing Director, MedTech Breakthrough
Why This Benefit Leader Switched to a More Modern, Transparent PBM
With healthcare spending rising year-over-year, especially pharmacy-related costs, which have ballooned to 25% to 30% (if not more) of most employers' total health benefit costs, it's critical for plan sponsors to evaluate independent, transparent PBM options.
This is why Rice University’s experience since onboarding with our team and solution is noteworthy. As reported in Employee Benefit News, Rice saw costs reduce by 5% in 9 months compared to the prior period, even while they implemented a GLP-1 program!
Capital Rx Ranked No. 18 on Inc.’s 2025 Regional List in the Northeast
Ranking on the Inc. 5000 Northeast list is an increasingly difficult accomplishment, especially in consecutive years. But in 2025, we made the list for an incredible fourth year in a row – and we improved our ranking by double digits from the prior year.
In just 12 months, Capital Rx added more than 80 new partnerships in 2024, created an end-to-end Medicare Prescription Payment Plan (MPPP) solution within Judi®, earned numerous certifications and awards, introduced an unbundled pharmacy benefit solution – Never Move Again™ - and unveiled healthcare’s first and only unified claims processing platform, Judi Health™.
Needless to say, it's been busy, and it’s exciting to see this hard work pay off.
Poster Presentations at the AMCP and PQA Annual Meetings
Our Clinical team has been hard at work this year, including helping roll out some incredible clinical programs. They also create studies each year that dive into specific areas within healthcare deserving of a closer look.
First, Zachary Brunko, PharmD (Formulary Operations Pharmacist), Jackie Lolos (Manager, Formulary Operations), and Nisha Bhide (Senior Director, Formulary Operations) presented their poster at the AMCP annual meeting, examining the reliability of ICD codes on pharmacy claim submissions.
Then, a few months later, Nash Albadarin, PharmD, MBA (Associate Director, Clinical Programs) presented a poster at the PQA annual meeting breaking down the study and numerous other team members – including Angela Kalantarova, PharmD (Senior Clinical Program Manager), Jakob Deel, MBA Candidate, Lauren Carroll, PharmD, BCACP (Senior Manager, Clinical Programs), Bonnie Hui-Callahan, PharmD, CDCES (Senior Director, Clinical Programs), Jay Tran, PharmD, MHA (VP, Clinical Operations), and Sara Izadi, PharmD (Chief Clinical Officer) -- conducted, seeking to measure the impact of Capital Rx’s adherence program on member adherence rates for medications used for diabetes, hypertension, and high cholesterol.
Capital Rx Wins Gold Stevie® Awards in Two Categories at the 2025 American Business Awards
Innovation has consistently been at the core of Capital Rx’s mission. That’s why we were so proud to earn 2 Gold Stevie® awards during the 2025 American Business Awards in two categories: Most Innovative Company of the Year - Up to 2,500 Employees and Company of the Year - Health Products & Services – Large.
This is the 9th Stevie Award Capital Rx has won in 2 years, having earned 5 for Customer Service and 2 American Business Awards in 2024.
The Truth About Pharmacy Benefit Procurement – Why Savings Don’t Materialize
In addition to our webinar breaking down the ins and outs of the PBM procurement process, we also wrote an eBook that explores the reasons savings often fail to materialize
An educational resource released this quarter explored why savings often fall short in traditional pharmacy benefit procurement processes. The eBook revealed systemic flaws in outdated models, advocating for innovative solutions to deliver genuine results. By shedding light on these challenges, Capital Rx continues to lead the discussion on how healthcare stakeholders can align cost-containment strategies with better patient outcomes.
We Dove into the PBM Procurement Process and the Future of Health Benefit Design
We hosted two webinars this quarter. Our first webinar, led by Kristin Begley, PharmD (Chief Commerical Officer) and Mike Miele, FSA, MAAA (Senior Vice President, Insured Services), covered how plan sponsors can “decode” the PBM procurement process, cut costs, and deliver optimal health outcomes for members.
The second webinar, hosted by our co-founder & CEO, AJ Loiacono, and Dr. Sunil Budhrani, MD, MPH, MBA (Chief Innovation & Medical Officer) featured a deep dive into healthcare’s first unified claims processing platform, including how it eliminates the redundancies and issues within the current fee-for-service system that contributes to rising costs and increased patient-provider friction.
Health Benefits 101 – The Importance of a Transparent PBM Model
As mentioned earlier, pharmacy benefit costs have risen dramatically in the last few years. That’s why it’s become increasingly important to understand both the importance of a transparent PBM model and how to identify a PBM partner dedicated to your success.
Our first Health Benefits 101 article dives into the topic and provides actionable steps plan sponsors can leverage to find a partner that will help them manage cost trend while delivering the premier care and support members expect.
